10K Inflatable Run: Improving Lives of People in Our Community

Understanding the importance of supporting lonely and isolated individuals, we are proud to work with our local charity partner, Voluntary Action South Leicestershire (VASL). We recognise the profound impact that social connection and community support have on overall well-being.

Loneliness can lead to serious health issues, both mental and physical, and it is especially frequent among older adults and unpaid carers who often face these challenges alone.

In support of VASL charity, our Welcomm Team took part in a 10k Inflatable Run 2024 to raise funds for our charity partner. We raised a grand total of £1,103, absolutely exceeding our goal. We are passionate about making a difference in our community.

Tackling Youth Homelessness

Ending youth homelessness and facilitating employment for young people is essential for breaking the cycle of poverty, promoting economic stability, and enhancing social inclusion. Stable housing and meaningful work not only improve physical and mental health but also provide a pathway to financial independence and a productive future. By addressing these issues, we help ensure that all young people can thrive and contribute positively to society.

In response to youth homelessness, The Street Soccer Foundation: the national award-winning sport-for-change charity, organised The Big Goal 2024. Our team took part in a series of national football tournaments to raise money for the charity and enable over 1600 young people to join Street Soccer Foundation Academies.

Keeping Veterans Connected

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, many organisations have shifted to delivering their services remotely. Whilst this may work for most, for those without access to the internet (or a suitable device), such technological barriers have created a digital divide; meaning those ‘without’ cannot easily access information or readily connect with others, causing isolation and limiting access to knowledge.

That is why in response to COVID, Combat Stress: The UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health, have begun trialling a new initiative that provides tablets and data connectivity to the veterans they support.

In support of the new digital Veteran Support Programme, Combat Stress’s veteran-owned technology partner Welcomm Communications, together with industry innovator Nokia Mobile, have teamed up to donate brand new Nokia T20 tablets to the programme – to equip more veterans with the technology they need this winter.

The Bonkers Bake Off

With charities relying on public funding taking a massive hit during the pandemic, in March 2021 we teamed up with long time Welcomm customer and fellow Leicestershire business Trucklink EU, to make a massive difference to LOROS Hospice by hosting a live-streamed Bonkers Bake Off and Charity Auction.

Thanks to the incredible support shown by the business community, our celebrity bakers (including sports stars, business leaders and charity trustees), as well as all those who attended the live-streamed event, together we raised a total of over £12K for the patients and staff at LOROS Hospice.

Rocket Round Leicester

Rocket Round Leicester was a spectacular public art trail that ‘landed’ across Leicester City Centre for 10 weeks in summer 2021. The event supported local businesses by safely encouraging people back to the city centre to view beautifully designed rocket sculptures, whilst also raising vital funds for LOROS Hospice.

Each of the giant rocket sculptures was sponsored by a business and individually designed by an artist from the local area or further afield, and Welcomm were proud to sponsor our very own rocket: The Rocket King.
